More than 2 million visit Muğla and Marmaris Region

More than 2 million foreign tourists traveled to Muğla by air and sea in the first eight months of 2008. Compared to last year, there has been a 13 percent increase. English citizens visited the region the most. Half of the tourists coming to the region were English, meaning more than 930,000 tourists.

Important tourism centers such as Bodrum, Marmaris and Fethiye are located in Muğla. In 2007, 1.9 million tourists visited the region, compared to 2.2 million in the first eight months of 2008 alone. Most visitors traveled by plane, with 1.1 million landing in Dalaman Airport and 761,000 landing in Milas-Bodrum Airport. More than 340,000 tourists arrived by sea.

British People Show a Particular Preference for MARMARIS

The number of foreign tourists coming to the province of Muğla in the first half of the year, by air and by sea, increased significantly from the same period last year. Muğla Governor Ahmet Altıparmak said the number of foreign tourists coming to Muğla, particularly to important tourism centers like Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye and Datça, has reached 947,040. He noted that this number was 816,961 during the same period last year, meaning there was a 16 percent increase. In the first six months of this year, 471,370 tourists landed at the Dalaman Airport and another 330,617 tourists came through the Milas-Bodrum Airport. Continue reading »

Gokova

paradise island 2Gökova is situated on the 27th kilometer (16th mile) of the Marmaris-Mugla road. The road enters the Gökova turnoff is lined with eucalyptus trees, forming a naturel tee-tunnel about a kilometer (half-a-mile) long. Passing through this wonderful canopy makes for a beautiful and exciting drive. Each corner of the bay offers different sites of beauty. Many stopover points of the blue voyage cruises are also located here. Thus, it is an important route between Marmaris and Bodrum. Bördübet, Karacasögüt, Okluk, Ingiliz Limani, Löngöz, and Yedi Adalar ( Seven Islands) are among the coves embraced by the bay. At the 30th kilometer (19th mile) away from Marmaris, while climbing up the steep and curvy road to Sakar Tepe in Gökova, looking out at the green of the plain and the blue of the sea in one breath will constitute unforgettable holiday memories. The bay, the plain, and the surrounding area just cannot be described by putting pen to paper; seeing them, experiencing them in person is a true necessity.

The summer is long and good weather is virtually guaranteed between May and as late as end October.Few countries in the world have such a cultural diversity as Turkey.
